RENOWN German tractor company Deutz-Fahr and premium lawncare equipment maker Bad Boy Mowers are two brands now available in a new venture by longstanding and highly respected WA truck and machinery sales executive Paul McGovern.

With partner, national vehicle retail group AutoLeague, he has opened Perth Power Tractor and Machinery in the Perth suburb of Welshpool, not far from one of his former positions as dealer principal for 21 years  at WA Hino.

His new business, which opened late last month and operates from a substantial building,  works with family-owned Australia and New Zealand distribution company Power Farming Group (PFG) and is the agent for many of PFG’s product lines.

Mr McGovern told Only Ag that public reaction to his business and the line of products has been “very good, very good.”

“One of the other brands that we represent is Versatile tractors out of Canada, which makes large broad-acre farming tractors which already have a very good reputation in Western Australia,” he said.

“The fact that there's a dealership now dedicating most of their time to that brand is exciting a lot of farmers.

“Before even opening our doors and even attending the Dowerin Field Days (held in WA at the end of August) I had already taken two orders on Versatile tractors. They are really a top-class product and farmers know their reputation.”

Mr McGovern said that the next show of strength for Perth Power Tractor and Machinery (PPTM) would be at the Newdegate agricultural show.

Of Deutz-Fahr, Mr McGovern said “pretty much everyone” knows how good they are as they are considered “a quality item” and are desirable despite a lot of competition.

“We are also selling and servicing Solis Tractors which come out of India. They are a smaller-style tractor and suitable for small properties such as hobby farms.

“They are one of the most popular tractors in Europe at the moment and, in fact, are the number one in Germany.”

Mr McGovern said PPTM was also representing the US brand of lawncare machinery, Bad Boy mowers, and a range of grass machinery.

“We also look after Baylors out of Ireland, McHale,  Vicon and others. We are a one-stop farming shop for for equipment.”

But he said it wasn’t just about sales. PPTM has a very large service and workshop centre that looks after the warranty and repair work for the brands its sells and has also started servicing all makes and models of trucks and tractors.

“We have a huge amount of space for the workshop area and more skilled technicians joining us<‘ he said.

“We also have highly-experienced sales and service people joining, along with a financial controller who has worked with me in the past for 11 years and a service manager with 30-plus years of experience working in servicing with a big fleet business.

PPTM is at 50 Kewdale Road in Welshpool.
