Crestmead, Queensland (12 August, 2025) – For the first time, John Deere’s most powerful tractors – the formidable 9RX Series – have arrived on Australian soil, and their speed, strength, and adaptability are already turning heads among experienced farmers.

Delivering up to 830 horsepower and enhanced hydraulic capacity, the 9RX Series is built to help large-scale broadacre operators get crops planted quickly and effectively. With a choice of track widths and tread spacings, these machines can tackle both row crop and broadacre tasks with ease.

The first shipment from the USA landed just in time for Cleveland Agriculture to sow 55,000 hectares of wheat and chickpeas across its Mungindi properties, straddling the NSW–Queensland border.

Farm Manager Craig Sykes said the arrival of the 9RX 710 and 9RX 770 models significantly lifted planting speeds.

“We’d heard a lot about the 9RX machines before we got them, and they lived up to our expectations and more. They’re very user friendly and the extra horsepower enabled us to plant faster. We have more chance of growing a good crop if we get it in on time,” Mr Sykes said.

He added that the four-track design proved a major advantage in challenging soil conditions.

“In this country we've got a lot of red and black soil, and the black is always wetter. So the 9RXs give us more traction with the four tracks.”

The 9RX Series also carries an Australian touch. Simon Doolin, from North Star, NSW, was part of a 12-member group of farmers invited to John Deere’s US facilities six years ago to help shape the design. Feedback covered everything from cab comfort and hydraulic flow to preferred speeds and powertrain performance.

That collaboration produced three new four-track, high-horsepower models powered by the JD18 engine: the 9RX 710 (710hp), 9RX 770 (770hp), and the flagship 9RX 830, delivering an industry-leading 830hp.

For Mr Doolin, seeing the machine in the field was even more impressive than the 3D designs he viewed in the US.

“Seeing the 9RX hooked up to the planters that we use made me realise how much better this new model is. It’s a fantastic package. All of the build points are in the right place, it has great power-to-weight ratio, all the creature comforts in the cab and new ideas for autonomy.”

"Efficiency is one of the only ways we can make gains in agriculture these days, and machines like these 9RX Series, with industry-leading technology, are a massive part of achieving that.”

Technology is a key part of the 9RX appeal. Precision Ag features include the integrated StarFire™ receiver, G5 Plus display, improved cornerpost display, and compatibility with AutoTrac™ Turn Automation, AutoPath™, AutoTrac™ Implement Guidance, Machine Sync, and in-field data sharing.

Under the hood, the e21 transmission provides smooth, responsive shifting to handle high-torque loads. Inside, the new CommandView 4 Plus cab delivers 20% better visibility, a quieter ride, 15% more floor space, a swivelling massage seat, and improved operator comfort for long days in the field.
